A Christmas Crossword
A Christmas Crossword 🎄
As the holidays approach, the topic of gifts naturally comes to the forefront.
However, giving a present does not mean the same thing in every culture.
In Japan, for example, a gift is above all a sign of respect: it is wrapped with great care and usually not opened in front of the giver.
In many parts of Asia, gifts are offered and received with both hands, and politely refusing a gift once or more before accepting it is considered good manners.
In Scandinavia, material gifts often take a back seat, while what truly matters is shared time.
In Italy and across the Mediterranean area, certain objects — such as pearls, knives or handkerchiefs — are traditionally linked to superstitions and symbolic meanings.
In China, giving a clock is considered unlucky, while in Iceland Christmas Eve is dedicated to the exchange of books and to reading together.
A gift, therefore, can express care and affection, but it can also create discomfort if the cultural rules behind it are not understood. This is why learning a language also means understanding gestures, symbols and traditions.
This idea inspired our Christmas thought.
Just like the tangram we gave to our students, this Christmas crossword is an invitation to observe, combine and interpret language in a light and curious way.
To keep playing with words during the holidays, we have prepared three versions of the crossword, one for each language:

Happy holidays,
may they be filled with new words, shared time and curiosity.
