La fioritura di Castelluccio

La fioritura di Castelluccio

The period between May and June is one of the most enchanting times of the year in Umbria; and it is also the time when Castelluccio di Norcia, in the Monti Sibillini National Park, is in bloom, offering its visitors an unforgettable display every year.

One after the other, a sequence of colorful expanses create a rainbow that connects earth and sky:  the red poppies, the blue cornflowers, the yellow lentils and the green fields.

The most important of these flowers is the lentil, a product local to Norcia and PGI certified (Protected Geographical Indication), a stamp which is given to agricultural products, food or wine which guarantees that they are locally sourced. For centuries, the cultivation of lentils marked the rhythm of daily life for the village’s inhabitants, a tradition which was passed down from generation to generation. East to cook and good to eat, they are a culinary tradition throughout Umbria.

Ma attenzione! I fiori della lenticchia sono molto delicati, non calpestarli o non ci sarà più raccolto!
