Just a few steps from the Abbey of Bovara, near Trevi, stands a thousand-year-old olive tree, considered one of the oldest in Umbria. According to tradition, in 304 AD, Saint Emiliano, the first bishop of Trevi, was tied to a young olive tree in this very place before his martyrdom.

Today, this “Green Patriarch” has become a symbol of resilience and continuity: it has witnessed centuries of history, survived frosts and changes in the landscape, and continues to live and regenerate. Its roots are deeply connected to the land, just like the Moraiolo olive variety, which contributes to the distinctive character of Trevi’s olive oil.

It is from this story that The Words of Olive Oil was born, an experience offered by Artelingua to discover Umbria’s olive-growing tradition through a visit, tasting and language.

Since Etruscan and Roman times, olive oil has been an integral part of everyday life in Umbria and still represents a central element of the region’s identity today.

A unique opportunity to experience authentic Umbria, learning how to talk about it — and taste it — with the right words.

Where: Artelingua will select the best local olive mills for each experience.

The experience includes:

  • Guided tour of the olive mill
  • Professional tasting of extra virgin olive oil
  • Tasting of local and farm products
  • The Words of Olive Oil workshop, led by Artelingua teachers

Next date: Thursday, 24 September, at 3:00 PM
